INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS SPECIFIC TO PERMIT SUB-CLASS D1: DIPLOMATIC
This sub class of Permit shall be issued to a person accredited to Rwanda as a diplomat to represent his/her country.

*Applications should be submitted at the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration Head offices in Kigali.
Applications should be accompanied by a letter from the Rwanda Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating the applicant’s accreditation to Rwanda.
Any genuine and recognized travel document valid not less than 6 months.
Permits will be valid for 2 years.
On recommendation from the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs this permits may be extended beyond the prescribed period.
Work involving the performance of diplomatic or consular functions is permitted.
Dependants including the spouse, children up to 18 years of age or unmarried children aged between 18 and 25 years who are in full time education.
Dependants who will be granted a permit are those who are recommended by the Rwandan Foreign Ministry.
A family member of a holder of diplomat permit may be allowed to work in Rwanda if he/she makes a request to the Director General of Immigration and Emigration. The applicant will be bound by the existing labor laws in Rwanda.
A diplomat posted to Rwanda will be permitted to bring a limited number of household staff to work in their residence. An application for a household staff member shall be accompanied by a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation recommending the issuance of the permit to the staff member.
Dependants of the household staff member shall not be permitted to work.
*One colored passport size photo with white background recently taken, without glasses, caps and scurf. The photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

For the applicant whose permit is in the expired or lost passport, will pay 10,000Frwfor the permit to be transferred in the new passport.
To avoid penalties, the applicant should apply/renew his/her visa before expiration of the current visa. Penalty fee is 20,000frw in a period of 6 to 15 days of the delay. Article 34 of the Ministerial Order No. 02/01 of 21/05/2011 establishing procedures and regulations implementing Immigration and Emigration law, categorizes other penalties from 16 days to 9 months and above.
